Let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance, the race marked out for us. Hebrews 12:1b
I was running behind and had to get ready super fast! I jumped in the shower but as usual I was really enjoying the hot water. It was cold outside. I had just finished working out and it felt so good.I was lost in the moment (way too long moment) when I realized, “HURRY! You are in a hurry.”
I knew I was in a hurry. I knew the right thing to do. Get out of the shower. Get out now! BUT it felt so good. It was cold outside of that shower door. I liked where I was.
“This is ridiculous! STOP! Turn the water off! Get OUT!” I thought. In that moment it dawned on me…sin. Often it feels so good. It seems so right. We want to stay and linger with it. We know the right thing to do, though. GET OUT!
I prayed (spiritual measures called for a little more time in the warm water;) “God, give me the strength to turn the water off. Stop. Walk away from the sin that temps me. Turn off my impure thought, my gossiping mouth, my selfish attitude. Strengthen me to get out and leave the sin that easily entices me to stay.”
When it feels good or seems right, but the Spirit is screaming, “GET OUT,” make the right move. Turn it off. Open the door. Walk away! You’ll be so glad you did!
