Do You Like Yourself?

In my forties, the craziest thing occurred.  I looked in the mirror. I have no idea how it happened but I grew elephant knees. Yes! My knees had these extra roles of skin or flab or something. Gross huh? I have no idea what it was. I squeezed it. Pressed it. Gazed at it. I was in shock, “Have I turned into Dumbo or is this what it’s like to get old?”

Suddenly I was jolted to a vivid memory looking at my mother in her shorts. A teenager thinking, “What’s wrong with mom’s knees? Why are they so saggy? Who has knees like that?” Years later, I’m thinking the same thoughts, wondering if Disney needs a supporting actor for Dumbo. At my rate, I may wake up in a few more years and discover a trunk hanging off my face. If so, look out Cinderella, there’s a new girl in town!

I shared my dilemma with a friend. She asked, “What are you going to do?” In that moment, I remembered S.H.A.P.E., a life approach in “Purpose Driven Life” by Rick Warren. We all have a shape. God gave me my own special animalistic elephantastic shape. God has given you a very special shape. We have two choices, embrace it or fight it. What will you do?

Join me the next 5 days as we explore our S.H.A.P.E. Each day we’ll discover a new part of our unique design. You’ll learn how pieces of your special shape play a role in impacting your world and enabling you to live the life God intended. Make the journey fun! Ask a friend to go on the S.H.A.P.E. search with you. Share what you learn and commit to embrace your own super shapes! Who knows what you’ll discover and the impact you’ll make when you learn to like the very special YOU!
