What is success? Ask 5 people. The majority will be stumped and if they do answer, each response will differ. So, how do we define success?
My godson was so sweet to ask if I wanted to go to lunch one day. I had today open so I shot him a quick text. We sat across from each other at Fuddruckers laughing about old times when the topic of success developed. My 21 year old godson said, “Success is being happy.” I debated his point but went away thinking, “What is the right definition of success?
Believe it or not, 1 hour after wrestling deeply with the definition, a radio announcer said, “Success is being all God created you to be. It’s living in the center of his will.”
My heart jumped, that is the answer. God created people for his purpose and plan. He’s gifted you with certain abilities and talents. You are ignited by specific dreams and passions. You were designed by God to be YOU for Him. When you do you for Him, this equals success.
Imagine you spent days creating an unbelievably amazing race car. The vehicle travels 200 mph safely, will never break down and requires no gas.
You take the car to the race track. Station the model of perfection at the start line. The car looks at his opponent and says, “I’d rather go watch TV.” The car drives home and watches hours of Netflix. You do everything in your power to get him off the couch and into the race! He’s designed to WIN!! You know it. You created him. Why won’t he go succeed?
Maybe your precious creation decides against the couch. Instead he determines he would rather be a boat and float than drive 200mph. Your race car cruises to the lake and dives in head first. Why would he want to be a boat? He can’t. You didn’t create him to be a boat.
Success is being who God created you to be. There are 101 ways people miss success. Trying to be something they aren’t, laziness, apathy, following the world. Don’t miss the success that was built inside of you before you were born. Write your dreams. Take a personality test. Discover your spiritual gift. List your talents and abilities. Prioritize your passions. Put all of these on paper. Ask God how he wants to use you for Him. He will lead you and show you one day at a time. Through people, experiences, ideas, and his word and obedience. you will find the life your craving. So get started being you for Him and experience the ultimate success.
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11
